Unfamiliar

Where to start……I shall begin with the unfamiliar, the title of the painting I have decided to feature in this blog update. The website has cropped the image so much for this feature that the painting almost seems well…..unfamiliar? I left off happily working away in my newly built Shedio, I decided to challenge myself by diving back into the world of cultural development by working on a national school libraries project for a year. Another wee challenge was focusing on songwriting and performing. Its important to note that although I have a habit of throwing myself at life challenges, Thankfully I have always been helped and sometimes ‘pushed’ along the way by good people who have seen something in me. (you all know who you are…)

Myself and my trusty musical compadre started in Dublin and Paris and ended up rather unexpectedly in…..Texas. In the land of the unfamiliar I found myself at home. I made good friends and I relished the difference of the fantastical landscape and flora and fauna of the region. I sang country songs back to the people and they loved my Scottishness and my Country roots.

I also found myself a handsome Texan. A photographer, creative, passionate promoter of music, a fellow traveler and I left my heart with him when I travelled back to Scotland. We have spent the time since dividing our time between our 2 countries and he has taken me across 18 states. I have taken him to the Highlands and Islands and encouraged him to fall in love with Glasgow….the best city in Scotland. I have continued my love for Margaritas and have now discovered much better Tequila, Mezcal and Sotol, realised that queso is the best bar snack. He has refined his taste for Whisky and accepted Irn Bru is the only acceptable hangover cure, loves a good fish supper and a wee bar of tablet. So the cultures complement each other very well. We continue to find new ways to amaze and confuse each other in equal measure.

Oh and in the meantime I’ve moved to Kintyre…..more to follow!
